WolfHall's Review
★★★★★★★★★☆ (9/10)
At the outset I would like to comment on what "Anomima" (Greek for: "Sin") holds, because it is simply breathtaking. Composer Christos Antoniou, head and lead guitar player of Black Metal band "Septic Flesh", is really rocking himself on the fourth album of his Side Project. It is released as a stand alone CD version, as well as a limited edition with an additional DVD, featuring the Making of by "FILMharmonic Orchestra and Choir of prague" and "Canticles 2". Topping its predecessor "Underworld" dating from 2008, in respect to versatility and the radical distancing from the Metal genre. They obviously did not hurry with this CD release, that does not pass unnoticed.
Rather strong meat, for some perhaps to strong, however on a brilliant technical and artistic level. Certainly not easy to digest, but rewarding the effort.

It's all over the map: Neoclassical, Modern Classical, Martial Industrial, Ethereal, Ethnic, Avantgarde, Opera and Jazz, not included the narrator inducing a soundtrack-like atmosphere. Besides the composition and production, the vocals by Androniki Skoula are exceptional. The woman is music to the ears. Apart from the vocals, she is responsible for the lyrics too, interpreting them in Japanese, English, French, Italian, Greek and German.

Kicking off with the haunting Japanese "間 (Ma)". Its spoken text translates as follows:
The way to above and to below is one and the same.
My Path is High,
Above the sky,
Where you can fly or you can die
You can't enter twice...

Ma... [...]

The succeeding "Un Pensiero Per Il Destino" is amazing. Those gems are very rare. Lush Neoclassical/Martial Industrial soundscapes achieved by acoustically recorded flutes, strings accentuated with various percussions. The next trip leads into Opera ("Medea") plus into Musical ("Dilate the Time"). In "Medea" the erratic vocal expression of singer A. Skoula reminds of her Greek counterpart Diamanda Galás, both seem at par with each other. Highlight #2 indicates "Truth Will Prevail", where vast Synthie layers create a bombastic feeling.

The bonus track on the DVD marks the piece "Canticles 2". What's so special with their most popular song must remain a secret to me. It offers the usual Aggrotech/Dark Electro dance tune.

The corresponding framework for this epic is provided by French graphic artist "Valnoir", which clearly was inspired by the Fin de siècle.
