This is an entirely different version dating from 1970. He later re-worked it for Aladdin Sane in 1973. The Prettiest Star is a song by David Bowie, originally released as a single in March 1970. In January 1970, Bowie re-recorded an old Deram track, London Bye Ta-Ta, intended as a follow-up single to Space Oddity. However, the same sessions spawned a new composition named The Prettiest Star, which Bowie had written for Angela Barnett, reputedly playing it down the telephone as part of his proposal to her. The song is in the style of the Greek hasapiko dance as a tribute to Angie's Cypriot. Conversation Piece effectively amounts to an exhaustive documentation of David Bowie becoming David Bowie over the course of 1968 and 1969. Strictly speaking, there aren't many unheard tracks here. Instead of treating Bowie as a visionary operating on his own celestial plane, Conversation Piece emphasizes the hard work and thought behind his artistic evolution

This is an entirely different version dating from 1970. He later re-worked it for "Aladdin Sane" in 1973. I was just checking for info on here as I heard it for the very first time tonight. It's supposed to have Marc Bolan playing on it but I haven't been able to confirm that yet. It's on youtube, under "David Bowie & Marc Bolan", check it out.

Bolan did did play the guitar solo on it and legend has it that he deliberately under-cooked the guitar solo to sabotage the track coming out of the well know mutual musical rivalry and jealously between him and Bowie. What are those artistic types like or what?! ;-)

The single has a large centre, the Aladdin sane picture must be underneath, otherwise this single wouldn't have a centre at all if you look closely. Silly to photograph it on top of anything I agree

You can see the original picture we were talking about here: https://www.discogs.com/release/3649557-The-Prettiest-Star-La-M%C3%A1s-Bonita-Estrella-Conversation-Piece-Fragmentos-De-Una-Conversaci%C3%B3n/images/update (7th pic from the top. It has been withdrawn).

Release year cannot be right: The label has the 1973 Aladin Sane picture...

You're absolutely right! :D I should have looked more closely before commenting... Thanx!

Looks like a large centre hole 7" with an Aladdin era picture behind it.
