Alternative Your Illusion is the debut studio album by American punk rock group Milk Music. It was released on April 2, 2013, via Fat Possum Records on CD and digital formats. The vinyl version of the album was self-released by the band. The album incorporates influences from various genres, including punk rock, indie rock, grunge, classic rock, post-punk and country music. The album is also described to have the messy fingerprints of indie rocks cherished first wave smeared all over it. Milk Music are a product of the fertile Olympia scene and Cruise Your Illusion finds them pulling influences from post-punk, classic rock, and blues. Lead singer Alex Coxen is a candid lyricist who conveys both piercing emotional vulnerability and confrontational punk swagger. When people describe Olympia, Washington, they usually talk about it as a deep-wooded, weeded-out hippie enclave, but Im not sure they get across how much of a deep-wooded, weeded-out hippie enclave it really is. I spent a week there with friends nearly a decade ago, and by the time I flew back to Baltimore, I felt like Id met the whole town. Everyone I met had some kind of menial, possibly dehumanizing job - kitchen work, phone sex - but none of those jobs seemed to run their lives the way jobs ran peoples lives back east. I spent entire days there high out of my mind, staring up at the sk. Cruise Your Illusion doesn't disappoint what the Washington four-piece have accomplished is as authentic as the influences that ooze from its fuzz, and warmer than an Arabian armpit. Read full review. As the album title suggests, Milk Music put their efforts here into tweaking and ever-so-slightly reworking things of American legend. At the album's last song, The Final Scene , any residual traces of romantic, youthful Americana ambition washes over, and the dreary 8-minute slow jam plays out, never overstaying its welcome and never leaving any stones unturned. Cruise Your Illusion toes the line of the awkward and unfamiliar, and the bland and over-done. Poison Idea Pick Your King. The Leather Nun Slow Death. Merchandise After The End

This album feels so honest. Hard to describe otherwise. If Dinosaur Jr, Meat Puppets and The Butthole Surfers had a baby, but tried to raise it normal then this is probably what you'd get. So pure, with big fuzzy guitars and heartfelt vocals. If you like any of the aforementioned bands, then this stands up with them easily, so grab it when you find it.
