The Jazz Compositions of Dee Barton is an album by bandleader Stan Kenton recorded in 1967 by Capitol Records. Barton was the band's drummer and, along with tenor-saxophonist Kim Richmond who would later develop into a top arranger himself, is about the graduate of this particular group to have a significant jazz career. Up until the breakup of his Mellophonium Orchestra in 1963, all of Stan Kenton's big bands had major soloists and future stars. But during his final decade, his orchestras would mostly consist of younger and one would expect inexpensive players, few of whom went on to greater heights. This LP consists of seven Dee Barton charts of his originals. Listen free to Stan Kenton The Jazz Compositions Of Dee Barton Man, Lonely Boy and more. 7 tracks 36:02. Dee Barton, from Starkville, MS was a trombonist with Kenton in the 60s, then became his drummer. He wrote some of the most creative big band charts for a band that had a huge sound, but sometimes had an image of being a little bit starchy. This may be Kenton at his best in the post-mellophonium era and certainly the last best Kenton album ever made. I do NOT make any money posting this.
