This album is a recording of the Off-Broadway production, which played at Playwrights Horizons from December 18, 1990 to February 16, 1991. The show was directed by Jerry Zaks, with a cast that included Victor Garber, Terrence Mann, Patrick Cassidy, Debra Monk, Greg Germann, and Annie Golden. After writing his most accessible mature musical, Into the Woods, in 1987, he collaborated with author John Weidman on an extremely disturbing topic: Assassins, which depicts the various people who tried-with or without success-to kill a United States president.
