Mosaic: A Celebration Of Blue Note Records - The Blue Note 7. Лента с персональными рекомендациями и музыкальными новинками, радио, подборки на любой вкус, удобное управление своей коллекцией. As part of a seventieth year celebration for Blue Note records, the label convened a collection of younger and experienced jazz stars to play hard bop compositions closely identified with their mid-'50s to mid-'60s glory days. This kind of band has been conceived before - remember Out of the Blue - but the difference is these are not new rising stars, but established musicians who have carved their own identities on other labels, except pianist and ostensible leader Bill Charlap. The Blue Note 7 are a jazz septet formed in 2008 in honor of the 70th anniversary of Blue Note Records. The group consists of Peter Bernstein guitar, Bill Charlap piano, Ravi Coltrane tenor saxophone, Lewis Nash drums, Nicholas Payton trumpet, Peter Washington bass, and Steve Wilson alto saxophone, flute. The group recorded an album in 2008, entitled Mosaic, which was released in 2009 on Blue NoteEMI, and toured the United States in promotion of the album from January until April 2009. The Blue Note 7 owe their existence to this anniversary and are touring 51 North American cities to celebrate. The septet make for the proverbial all-star cast: Nicholas Payton and Ravi Coltrane, on trumpet and tenor respectively, need no introduction, while Steve Wilson on alto, guitarist Peter Bernstein, pianist Bill Charlap, Peter Washington on bass and Lewis Nash can all offer up serious contemporary pedigree. A little disappointingly, Mosaic doesn't continue the theme of sevens, instead comprising eight songs. The group launch into the album's title track, Mosaic by Cedar Walton, with alacrity. Crisp, honed and driven, each contribution is brilliantly performed. On January 13, Blue Note Records will commemorate the label's 70th anniversary with the release of MOSAIC: A CELEBRATION OF BLUE NOTE RECORDS, an eight- song collection of classic Blue Note repertoire re-envisioned by The Blue Note 7, an all- star septet comprising pianist, musical director, and current Blue Note recording artist Bill Charlap with trumpeter Nicholas Payton, tenor saxophonist.
