The Nautilus Project presents "Excursions", which is his most personal so far. It was previously scheduled on the Other Heights Label and later cancelled there - now, it is the initial release on "Forest Roots", which was planned, founded and launched by The Nautilus Project and Jaymon far in advance and kept in secrecy until its offical announcement.

The mastermind of this work exhibits his first complete Ambient/Drone composition on the Forest Roots. This tribute to nature gives a reflection of journeys made by the artist, wandering around in his favourite natural hide-outs and becoming lost within its impressiveness, before returning to the day-to-day reality of civilization. It opens a fabolous new world of music and visions, embedded into a big story, never produced that way by TNP before - shaped and formed into a massive mixture of deep evolving layers and obsessive arrangements, powered by a strange lovecraftian atmosphere and a lurking, unseen presence of nature, where no wanderer has ever been seen. This Release is TNP's deepest hour, and you are invited to take part on this adventure by a length of around 79 mins, built up and reduced to the maximum of emotions
Tranquil, meditative ambient/drone from The Nautilus Project, and the first such release from the artist (as his usual output falls under the dub techno umbrella). His penchant for lush atmospheres is in evidence here, with an earthly theme replacing his usual aquatic motif. The cover image of the edge of a misty forest is perfect for the tone of the music, which carries the listener on a journey through some unknown woods. The pads and textures are often similar to those heard in dub techno pieces (especially the full-on chords in "A Sleeping Garden" and "Snow Covered Woods"), but the tracks are stripped of rhythm and bass, so fans of NP's usual output could be taken aback by this new approach. For me, though, it works very well; ambient music can easily be boring if there aren't enough subtle changes in the sounds, but here even though the pieces are often based around single drones or slow, two-note patterns, the surrounding textures, effects and field recordings allow the tracks to envelop me, holding my attention throughout, as quality ambient should. The fact that the album is a skilful dub-ambient blend makes it all the more appealing. I'd recommend it to any fan of ambient or dub techno.
