Love for Levon: Benefit To Save The Barn was a concert held on October 3, 2012 at the Izod Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The concert was a tribute to the life of The Band lead vocalist and drummer Levon Helm. The concert featured a wide variety of musicians who had worked with Helm as well as musicians who were influenced by him. Proceeds from the concert went towards keeping Helm's Woodstock barn in his family's control as well as continuing his Midnight Ramble concert series in the barn. Levon Helm was arguably the heart and soul of the Band, and his back-porch Arkansas drawl gave many of the Band's best songs their strong sense of history and character. He was a remarkable vernacular singer in a band that had three of them Rick Danko and Richard Manuel also knew how to put heart and soul into a song, and the Band, thanks in no small part to Helm, essentially put the Americana genre on the map in the mid-'60s. The star-studded benefit concert took place at the Izod Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey and featured once-in-a-lifetime collaborations by friends and admirers gathered together to celebrate and honor Levon Helm. Performances included GRAMMY. On October 3, 2012, music stars and friends joined together to celebrate the life and music of Levon Helm at Love for Levon: Benefit To Save The Barn. This LOVE FOR LEVON extravaganza features 27 songs capped by a full group finale of The Weight, one of Levon's greatest moments on record. On this magical night, everyone felt the outpouring of love toward Levon. That evening, one at a time, or sometimes in pairs, music royalty took turns in the spotlight, performing songs associated with Levon Helm and the Band. This incredible benefit concert was an instant success due to the high-energy, awe-inspiring performances of such rock 'n' roll legends as Paul McCartney, Phil Collins, Pink Floyd, Eric Clapton, Elton John, Mark Knopfler, Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, Status Quo, Tears For Fears and Cliff Richard & The Shadows. So putting aside a bit of well-intentioned revisionism, the Love For Levon concert celebrated that groove with an unrestrained joy and love you cant get enough of. The concert was held so that Helms legendary Midnight Rambles - the intimate shows for 200 at his barn studio in Woodstock, N. might keep going. It was his last wish. As long as those go on, and as long as someone keeps trying to play that unmistakable groove, Levon Helm is still alive. Rating .
